Boz uy - a yurta – is a house of the nomadic people! The yurta, is easily assembled and is convenient in transportation.
Made of wood, wool and mat, it is a shelter from cold, rain and heat.
Mats, made from a steppe plant, are decorated by an ornament from coloured woollen threads. The internal space of a yurta is divided into two halves: the guests' and the kitchen. The design of yurtas has been improved with centuries. Sliding trellised walls of a yurta on a circle are easily assembled and disassembled. The yurta's skeleton is densely covered by felt. A floor is covered by koshma and kiyiz made of felt, embroidered with Kyrgyz ornaments and patterns. In the middle of a yurta there is a fireplace.
Tundjuk -
is a trellised aperture at the top of a yurta for light and air penetration. From outside the tunduk it is covered by kiyiz – a koshma from felt. Tunduk can be opened and closed easily. On the floor in the place of honour, lies shirdak - the Kyrgyz carpet. For a long time and till now the Kyrgyz skilled workers have made them manually, putting in skill and talent, and they pass on their experience and train young workers.
The yurta for guests always has a cosy, traditionally-looking and bright appearance.
